Junior Tennis Instruction

Junior Tennis instructional clinics for children ages 5 – 13 will be offered on Tuesdays 9am-12pm and on Fridays 9am-12pm with Robbie Bennet, the assistant tennis pro. 

Robbie will be at BHYC on Tuesday and Friday mornings on the old court. Robbie’s first day will be June 27th. He will be focused on the younger junior players. His lessons will accommodate the timing of the JSP program. His Tuesdays and Fridays will begin at 9 and end at noon. He will be assisting Bob with the Adult Clinics when the tennis camp is happening.

9 – 10 am: This clinic will be for those in Helmsman. Ages roughly 11 – 13.
10 – 11 am: This clinic will be for those in Harbor Rookies. Ages 5 – 7.  
11 – noon: This clinic will be for those in Ballast and Apprentice Helmsman. Ages roughly 8 – 10.

Robbie’s clinic will be $20 per hour (2 hours per week) and can be paid in cash or online through the BHYC junior tennis website.

Bob Christie will hold a weekly Advanced Junior Tennis Clinic on Tuesday mornings for ages 13 and up unless cleared by Bob.  $25 per clinic.
9 – 10 am: Advanced Junior Clinic. This is reserved for ages 13 and up unless cleared by Bob based on skill level. This clinic will be $25 each and can be paid in cash or booked on the BHYC Tennis website.

Junior Tennis Camp

2025 BHYC TENNIS CAMP
 
The BHYC Tennis Committee is excited to announce for the summer of 2025 the fourth annual BHYC Junior Tennis Camp for ages 5 – 16.  This will be a 3 week camp.  Campers can attend one, two or all three weeks.
Spencer Turner will be returning this summer as the instructor.  He was outstanding the past two summers and we are so lucky to have him back for 2025.
 
Tennis instruction will be one hour for each age group in the morning and the camps will not interfere with the Junior Sailing Program. A separate email will be sent outlining the dailing tennis camp schedule.
 
Sign up will be through the BHYC tennis website.  Registration will open Friday April 11th.  Space is limited to allow for better instruction.  What:  BHYC Fourth Annual Summer Tennis Camp.
 
When: Week 1: July 21 – 25. Week 2: July 28 – August 1. Week 3: August 4 – August 8.
How much:  $150 per week.  
Instructed by Wesleyan University club tennis player, Spencer Turner. 
 
One hour of tennis for each age group per day (5-7, 8 – 10, 11-13,14-16).  No conflict with Junior Sailing Program.
 
We will attempt to limit the camps to 8 campers per age group.  Space is limited.

Spencer’s bio:
Spencer Turner is from Washington DC, but calls the mean courts of Fort Greene Brooklyn home. He played competitively as a junior before taking a long break.  He currently plays Club Tennis at Wesleyan University where he is a Sophomore studying Film and Studio Art. Spencer has volunteered with a variety of USTA tennis and learning non-profits, and coaches both 1:1 and small group sessions. Spencer loves the unique way that our sport develops analytical problem solving skills while rewarding positive self-talk, courage, discipline and tenacity.  Outside the lines he appreciates how these on court skills and lessons become powerful tools for everyday life.  

The Hope Cup – BHYC 16 and Under Junior Singles Tournament

The Hope Taplin Pfeifle Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament is held each summer.  This is a 16 and under junior singles tennis clinic.  In the name of sportsmanship, prior winners of the Hope Cup are not allowed to participate in future years.
