Recognizing that young sailors are the future of the club, the mission of the Junior Sailing Program is to develop competent sailors and to instill in them a love and respect for the sport so that sailing becomes a source of life-long enjoyment, whether by day sailing, cruising or racing.
The 2018 season runs June 18th through August 23rd, including eight weeks of instruction, one week of setup, and up to five days of cleanup.

The Race Coach is responsible for the leadership & coaching of the JV and Varsity Race Teams. This will involve working with the Program Director and Co-Chairs to develop a summer-long syllabus for the race team, working with a visiting instructor for a race clinic opportunity, and daily instruction. The position also requires on-the-water coaching at local & travel regattas as well as partnering with local programs for team racing practice. The Race Coach will be responsible for the safety & supervision of the team while fostering a positive environment where sailors feel both challenged and supported by their teammates and coach.
The Race Coach must be at minimum US Sailing Level 1 certified with preference given to candidates who can complete their Level 2 prior to the first day of the program. College or high-school race team experience is preferred.
The Head Instructor is first and foremost responsible for all aspects of instruction at the Junior Sailing Program, which includes ensuring the safety of all participants of the program at all times and that boats and equipment are prepared for lessons. The Head Instructor is expected to always represent the program well in both attitude and appearance, creating a learning environment where all sailors feel accepted, safe, and encouraged by instructors and other sailors in the program. The Head Instructor reports to the Program Director and Co-Chairs of the Junior Sailing Committee and is considered a mentor and supervisor for both junior and senior staff.
The Head Instructor must be at minimum US Sailing Level 1 certified by the first day of the sailing season with preference given to candidates with any additional certifications or experience. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of teaching experience.
The Senior Instructor is responsible for instruction in the Junior Sailing Program, which includes ensuring the safety of all participants of the program at all times. The Senior Instructor is expected to always represent the program well in both attitude and appearance, creating a learning environment where all sailors feel accepted, safe, and encouraged by instructors and other sailors in the program. The Senior Instructor reports to the Head Instructor, Program Director, and Co-Chairs of the Junior Sailing Committee and is considered a mentor and supervisor for junior staff.

The Junior Instructor must have completed the BHYC Junior Sailing Program (or equivalent) and be US Sailing Level 1 certified by the first day of the sailing season. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience as an instructor in training.
The Junior Instructor in Training is responsible for assistant-teaching their designated classes, which includes ensuring the safety of all participants of the program at all times. They are expected to always represent the program well in both attitude and appearance, creating a learning environment where all sailors feel accepted, safe, and encouraged by instructors and other sailors in the program.
Current (or recent) enrollment in the BHYC Junior Sailing program with intention of completion of the program is a pre-requisite for this position.
